The younger brother of Mel Gibson has spoken out about people thinking he was an antisemite due to the belief in the industry that Mel was.
The rift between Mel and his younger brother, Donal Gibson, is now clear for all to see after the latter went public with his anger towards the views and conduct of Mel.
Donal has spoken to The Daily Mail and blamed Mel for having him blacklisted in Hollywood and, therefore, seriously hindering his career.
He discussed the various differing phases of his relationship with his brother and blamed fame and fortune for ruining their bond.
"Mel and I were once so close that I find it unbelievable that we're not talking, that we're not in touch," Donal told The Daily Mail.
"When we were kids, we shared a bedroom, we did everything together.
"Fame changed him. He started believing in his own publicity. The Mel I knew disappeared.
"Hollywood ate him up and spat him out. To me, the fame, the money, it all went to his head and created a monster. I hate what he has become."
How Mel Gibson hindered his brother's career
Mel is about to start production on a sequel of the 2004 film 'The Passion of the Christ'. The film was heavily criticized at the time for how it depicted Jewish people.
Donal explained that the creation of that film and the criticism that it received had a seriously negative affect on his own career in the movie industry and he found it much harder to get work afterwards.
"I was getting regular work before 'Passion of the Christ', but I think people thought Mel was an antisemite, so they thought I was too," he said.
"I believe I was blacklisted. Mel was OK because he had millions pouring into the bank."
