The Argentina international did not emerge for the second half but Klopp insisted that was merely a precaution.

“He could have played on, but it was painful so it was clear we would make a change,” Klopp said.

“There was no need to push him through. I spoke to him afterwards and he said everything is fine. It’s just bruising.”

Liverpool led 2-0 and 3-2 but faded in the closing stages as Bayern took control.

“A lot of good things and some things I didn’t like,” Klopp added, when asked about the performance.

“Now we have to analyse. We need to look at what’s physical. We did a lot in training, especially yesterday in tough circumstances. You saw with the goals we conceded it was mainly down to a lack of concentration. They were very similar situations.

“That’s not allowed so we need to analyse properly and I’ll have enough time to do that on the flight home.

“The atmosphere was great. The people created something really special. We felt super welcome from the first second. That’s intense as well. People were waiting everywhere for us.

“But I won’t miss opening a door and everyone cheering to be honest. I’ll be happy to open the door at home and no-one is cheering.

“I hate losing. When it happens, I feel it, but it’s pre-season and a strong opponent.

“We’ve had two camps in a row and this is the last day. The most important information of all is that nobody got hurt. Really cool.”
