The incident occurred on July 25, 2014, the day after Mixon turned 18 in Norman, Oklahoma. Later that year, in October, the footballer entered an Alford plea.
Molitor alleged that the running back and his teammates harassed her and her pals in front of a business.
Mixon was seen following Molitor into the shop, according to security footage. They soon got into an argument. Mixon was then assaulted and slapped in the face by Molitor.
The footballer then hit her, knocking her onto a table. Molitor had surgery following the incident since the blow and subsequent fall had broken four bones in her face.
Molitor claimed that Mixon’s homophobic slur directed at her and her friends after following them into the store exacerbated the situation.
The Bengals running back said that Molitor’s friend called him a racist term and that Mixon replied by calling him a homophobic epithet.
Joe Mixon Was Arrested For Misdemeanor Assault?
On August 19, 2014, detectives concluded that the athlete had been arrested and charged with minor assault.
The player was given a one-year deferred sentence as well as 100 hours of community service and counseling.
Furthermore, the athlete was suspended from the University for his first year but was allowed to continue attending.
The above-mentioned security film was not made public; there was only a stage showing.
A county judge ruled in February 2015 that the City of Norman was not compelled to make the video public. The judge ruled that the footage should not be made public since it depicts no arrest, which is prohibited under open records legislation.
Several media outlets sued the city for failing to comply with their requests for access to public records.
The Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals determined a year later that the district court’s justification for withholding the film was wrong.
Joe Mixon is being sued by Amelia Molitor
Molitor filed a federal court lawsuit against Mixon on July 22, 2016, charging him with carelessness, willful and wanton wrongdoing, and purposeful infliction of emotional distress.
On April 21, 2017, the sides negotiated a settlement in the civil litigation.
Aside from the assault conviction, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops suspended Joe for one game in 2016 after a fight between Mixon and a parking valet.
After collecting a parking ticket, Mixon confronted the attendant, tore it in half, and flung the pieces. According to the incident report, he then “inched at the officer” with his automobile “to scare the Police.”
