Corey Feldman has detailed the abuse he allegedly suffered at the hand of his mother Sheila Kenner in his new autobiography Coreyography: A Memoir.
Now she has hit back with her own version of what went down with her child actor son who appeared in such '80s hits as Gremlins and The Lost Boys.
The former Playboy model told RadarOnline, 'I’m stressed, but I’m trying. It’s very hard to deal with. It really is. I just have to deal with it.'
His mom is 'stressed': Sheila Kenner, the mother of teen star Corey Feldman - seen here on October 30 at a signing for Coreyography: A Memoir - is unnerved by allegations that she abused him
Since Coreyography hit book stores on October 29, the star has been on several TV shows such as The View last week and Good Morning America on Monday, discussing how his mother hit him.
'My story in and of itself was very tragic,' Corey, 42, told CNN’s Piers Morgan last week. 'I did have a very, very rough upbringing. I endured a lot of pain in my childhood. I didn’t choose this life. It was chosen for me.'
After The View's host Jenny McCarthy questioned his familial abuse allegations, the former child star explained, 'I don't want to turn this into a mother-bashing session... she tried the best she could.'
Mommy issues: While promoting his book on The View in late October he told Jenny McCarthy, 'I don't want to turn this into a mother-bashing session... she tried the best she could'
Enjoying the attention?: On Wednesday the Lost Boys star smiled after a successful weeks-long press blitz
'This thing with Corey is getting totally out of hand,' she told Radar about allegations her son has made that include forcing him to keep his weight down with diet pills and also beating him with a curtain rod.
The former drug addict, who still talks to Corey, said he gave her a head's up about what was to come. 'I had a pretty good idea [what was coming in the book] because Corey and I discussed it. At one point, we went out to dinner. He said, "Mom, you’re not going to like what I have to say." I said, "Corey, I’m probably not gonna like it. I’m gonna be pretty hysterical and I’m gonna know that most of it is not true."
Corey - who sought emancipation from his parents at age 15 - told her to 'just go along with it,' she claimed. 'He told me, "I want you to know that you’re just gonna be getting swamped."'
Of the abuse claims, Sheila tells Radar, 'There’s always good with bad. It’s not all negative. The business has been very, very good to our family.'
The mother was in the business herself long before her son started working in grammar school. For a while, she was a Playboy bunny.
'I’ve been around it for so long. I was just a kid myself when I had Corey,' she argues.
Corey went into the business because he was a natural, she told Radar, a real 'ham.' It was he who sought out the limelight, not her, as she insisted to the site she was not a stage mom.
She also lets on that he messed up. 'If he had done it properly, he would still be working as an actor, director, and producer,' the mother said.
When asked about the sexual abuse her son, along with Lost Boys co-star and friend Corey Haim, Sheila doesn't show sympathy, but instead turns the focus back on her.
'I have more to write about than you do, Corey!' offers the Hollywood native.
'I was an adult around all that stuff.'
The one-time model then suggests that Corey didn't write the book himself. 'Corey had a ghost writer on the phone [at least once],' she says.
It should be noted that most celebrity autobiographies are made with the help of ghost writers.
His mother made him do it: He says his mom dyed his hair blonde and forced him to try out for films like 1984's Gremlins, but she says not true - he is the one who wanted to act
